With the February 5, 2020 patch, an improvement was implemented to improve the Alliance Team Deathmatch matchmaking system. This pop-up message will appear when you request to apply to Alliance Team Deathmatch "If there is no suitable opponent, the match will change to a Team Deathmatch."
So, don't worry if you ever automatically got queued in Team Deathmatch even though you applied for Alliance Team Deathmatch. That's perfectly normal whenever the game is unable to find a suitable opponent for your Alliance.
